Friends of Carré
‘This is a place to fall in love with,’ sang the late Toon Hermans, one of the Netherlands’ greatest performers, about Carré. It’s a sentiment with which many performers and visitors agree. A few years ago, after 120 years of intensive use, the listed building that houses the Netherlands’ most famous theatre underwent a drastic renovation costing €28 million. Only part of this was covered by subsidies. Royal Theater Carré is therefore more dependent than ever on sponsors and gifts.
Become a Friend of Carré
Royal Theater Carré has had an active circle of Friends for many years. By becoming a member of the Friends of Carré Foundation you support our unique theatre. This support is concentrated around three areas: the building, communication and artistic ambitions. Naturally, the theatre is happy to offer something in return to its Friends. Depending on the sort of Friendship you choose, you can expect the following from us.

Friend of Carré €30
- personalised Carré Card
- pre-sale period of at least one week ahead of general ticket sale date
- digital newsletter (by post if necessary)
- reduction on introductory talks and other activities
- tour of the theatre with first booking
- payment of a one-off €3 per reservation instead of €3 per ticket
Golden Friend €175
As above plus
- pre-sale period of at least two weeks ahead of general ticket sale date
- regular digital mailing about last-minute actions (or by post)
- 10% reduction on merchandise
- free entry to introductory talks on various shows
- a once a season meeting with the Carré management
- possibility to be top of the waiting list for tickets on the day of the show
- no reservation costs
Diamond Friend €450
As above plus
- pre-sale period of at least three weeks ahead of general ticket sale date
- tickets sent free of charge
- a once a season special gathering with the Carré management for Diamond Friends and partners
- two free tickets for a show chosen by the management
- your name on the Friends board in Carré
Long-term tax deductible gift
You can arrange a gift of €450 or more a year over a period five years with a notary’s act (free of charge). The yearly amount is fully deductible from your Dutch income tax. With a long-term gift you contribute to a strong basis for and the continuity of the Friends of Carré Foundation. Friends information
- You will receive your personal Friend of Carré Card about three weeks after your application.
- As a Friend, you can buy tickets early during the special Friends pre-sale period. You will receive information about this by e-mail.
- We cannot offer pre-sales for shows contracted at the last minute or where we have a specific agreement with the producer. However, we will let you know when these tickets go on sale.
- The Friends season runs from July 1 to June 30. You can end your Friendship by sending an e-mail to vrienden@carre.nl or a letter to Postbus 20202, 1000 HE Amsterdam before April 1.
